Most people would like a straighter, better looking smile. But many are put off undergoing orthodontic treatment because they don’t want to wear traditional metal and wire braces. Thankfully, there are now many alternatives to choose from, including Invisalign®, which offers a much more discreet way to get the smile you want.
Once upon a time, the only option for straightening and re-aligning teeth were traditional braces, meaning many people chose to forgo treatment. Traditional braces are very obvious in your mouth, and can leave you feeling self-conscious when you are undergoing treatment.
However, Invisalign braces offer an effective way to get great results without having to have all of that metal, wire and rubber bands in your mouth. Invisalign aligners are made from a transparent material that is designed to be invisible when you smile. The aligners are also custom-fitted to your teeth using advanced imaging technology to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.
Using 3D scans, your dentist will be able to map out your treatment plan from start to finish, and let you see how your smile will look after treatment using Ace Dental’s iTero scanner.
Traditional braces work by exerting gentle pressure on your teeth to encourage them to move into the correct position. Invisalign works on the same principles but is a more comfortable, convenient way.
Invisalign aligners, or trays, are designed to be worn by you until each one has gradually shifted your teeth further into the optimum position. You then move onto the next aligner in your Invisalign treatment, until your teeth are where they should be.
Invisalign has several advantages over other orthodontic options, including:
First, you will have a consultation to ensure that Invisalign is the right option for you before your dentist takes images, impressions and x-rays of your teeth. This information will be sent to Invisalign so that your custom aligners can be made.
Once your aligners are ready, you will be asked to make an appointment with your dentist to make sure they definitely fit correctly. Your dentist will explain to you how to use the system effectively.
You will receive a set of aligners, one for each stage of your treatment process. You will wear each aligner for somewhere between 20 and 22 hours per day for around two weeks. After that, you will switch to the next aligner in the series. Regular follow-up sessions with your dentist will allow them to monitor your progress.
The simple answer is, everyone is different. The length of time it takes for you to achieve the results you want will vary depending on how straight your teeth were when you started the treatment, as well as whether you are disciplined about wearing your aligners for the correct amount of time each day.
It could be as short a space of time as six months before you begin to see results, with around 12 to 18 months to complete treatment.
Like other orthodontic treatments, you will need to wear a retainer overnight following treatment with Invisalign to make sure your teeth don’t shift back into their original position. Your dentist will provide you with a special Invisalign retainer.
Ace Dental offers a free initial consultation, valued at £90, as well as 0% interest finance for Invisalign treatment. We also offer complimentary removable retainers worth £200 to maintain your smile.
